Question: Where do you bury a dead body ?long-promote

Answer: On the 2nd page of Google because
nobody will ever find it !

You could have the best looking website in the world that offered products and services that people are looking for, but if it’s not on page 1 of Google, Bing and Yahoo then nobody is going to see it.

The 4 Main Areas Of Business Website Traffic

  1. Search Engine Optimisation
  2. Online Advertising
  3. Social Media Marketing
  4. Referral Marketing

All 4 sources are vitally important and you should NEVER rely on just 1 to promote your business.

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)

I can feel your eyes glazing over at just the mention of SEO.

SEO is the process of getting web pages to rank at the top of search engines such as Google, Bing, YouTube and Yahoo.

Now you might be thinking that YouTube is a video sharing site and not a search engine but you’d be mistaken.

YouTube is the 2nd most searched website on the planet and if your marketing efforts do not include video then you’re missing out big time.

Online Advertising

The next huge category of traffic is online advertising and there are a couple of major types:

  1. Search advertising: Google Adwords, MSN AdCenter, etc.
  2. Display advertising: Google Display Network, Facebook, retargeting, etc.

The major benefit of advertising is that you can get your campaign live extremely quickly and start getting clicks to your website almost immediately.

Social Media Marketing

The next major category of online traffic is social media.

It does not matter what business you’re in, your potential new customers are spending time on Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, Twitter, and Pinterest, or on blogs, or on review websites like Yelp.

Like SEO, the big benefit of social media is that it’s free. And the first (and extremely basic) step to getting traffic with social media is to simply show up where your potential customers are already hanging out.

Referral Traffic

The two main areas of referral traffic are as follows:

  1. Referral partnerships: where partners are sending you traffic (usually in exchange for commissions and/or reciprocation)
  2. Customer referral programs: where you create incentives for your customers to refer other customers to your business.

The big benefit of referral marketing is that referrals are typically the highest-converting traffic (i.e., it’s most likely to convert into leads and sales).
